Everybody Goes to Jimmy A Suspense Novel (Audible Audio Edition) Michael Mayo Qarie Marshall LLC Dreamscape Media Books

Jimmy Quinn is delivering a bribe for the infamous racketeer Arnold Rothstein when a bomb goes off on Wall Street, killing 30 people and scaring every banker in the city down to his spats. Twelve years later, Rothstein is dead, and Jimmy is doing his best to stay out of trouble, running a quiet Manhattan speakeasy. At a bad moment for him and his favorite waitress, a blast rocks the alley outside and draws him right back into the madness of 12 years ago. That morning, a strange package came in with his liquor shipment four plain books filled with cryptic numbers. The incident sets Jimmy off on a mad race from the heights of the Chrysler Building to the depths of New York's underworld.

I just finished Michael Mayo's second Jimmy Quinn novel and I enjoyed it even more than Jimmy the Stick. Jimmy runs a speakeasy in New York City during Prohibition. In the book, everybody goes to Jimmy's because everybody thinks that someone has sent Jimmy $100,000.00 and everybody wants a piece of the money. The book has a wild, crazy, complicated plot with seemingly disparate threads that all come together in a satisfying ending. Everybody Goes to Jimmy's is a thoroughly enjoyable book and I can't wait to read the next installment in the series.Product details

Everybody Goes to Jimmy A Suspense Novel (Audible Audio Edition) Michael Mayo Qarie Marshall LLC Dreamscape Media Books Reviews
The first sentence of this one contains both a description of a very passionate moment and a nearby bomb explosion - and from that moment on the action never stops. At the center of the tale is Jimmy Quinn, owner of a speakeasy and someone who operates outside the lines of the law...but still a relatively small time dabbler in crime. He plans on starting over when Prohibition ends. Meanwhile, he runs his speakeasy and also takes on some jobs for Meyer Lansky, Arnold Rothstein, and other notable crime figures.
But after the bomb explosion Quinn suddenly finds himself in great danger, caught up in a web of crime and a complex chain of events. At various points along the way he faces a former flame, Nazis, numbers runners, and a whole cast of strange characters. All Quinn wants to do is stay out of the line of fire but to succeed he has to try and connect the dots while evading those who want to kill him.
Meanwhile, he can't understand why he is suddenly involved in a theft gone wrong and targeted by many different people. Why do so many want to hurt him? How did he become a part of it all? Why is he being grilled for answers even before he comprehends the situation?
The noir atmosphere is totally convincing, the sentences tight, the characters compelling, and the action non-stop. I was caught up in this mystery and the challenges of guessing "whodunnit" as well as the twists and turns which kept coming at breakneck speed. This is a quick read and one I found to be both an exciting and satisfying way to spend an afternoon.
In Everyboy Goes to Jimmy's, Mayo perfectly captures the gangster/speakeasy lifestyle from the 1920-30s. Jimmy the Stick, has upgraded from being an errand boy to a just-under-the-law speakeasy owner, and a confluence of events lands on him. People seem to think he's being sent some money. An ex-girlfriend is thought to have cheated her crime mob boss and run off with ransom money; a bank heist caper supposedly sent his spoils; a family dispute over insurance money had it sent to him....and Jimmy has to figure out what's happening to save his own skin.
It's almost impossible not to hear the voices of the characters speaking. It's a relatively short book, but it's a page turner. Told through Jimmy's eyes, he recounts the story as it's happening, along with flashbacks of other people's story. Full of the standard archetypes of the era - cops on the take; honest cops; mostly honest cops; Nazi party members; communists; bruisers; bookies; mob bosses; bombshell beauties (one nicknamed Sugart-ts); and a love triangle, it's still a good read. It's brutal in places (some of the fights are rather violent), and though the reader is relatively certain Jimmy will somehow remain mostly unscathed, it's difficult to determine what the truth of the mystery is until the end.
Having read many non fiction books about the gangsters of the 1920s & 1930s; plus countless fiction novels of the era; plus countless classic black & white movies of the era(not to mention color); plus the HBO series, Board Walk Empire - I snapped this new novel right up. This is the second on the series(Jimmy The Stick, being the first). The author does a stellar job of not only getting the history right & bringing it to life on the page, he also picks an explosive event on Wall Street to weave into the story line(September 1920/People were yelling things like, The Stock Exchange has been destroyed and The Morgan Bank is exploded.). It's now twelve years later, 1932, and another explosion happens in downtown Manhattan where Jimmy the Stick has his speak, a bar he bought in 1929 and tonied up since he took it over. Also of concern, for Jimmy, is that Prohibition might be ending, & Jimmy will need to transition through the upcoming inevitable shakedowns(But if the bastards decided to make liquor legal again, hell, that would be an anvil in the ointment). Although Jimmy doesn't realize it yet, that explosion has just set the start of a fuse, where Jimmy's dead center in a plot that's going to put him in the sights of several concerns; where his life is, once again, hanging on the pressure-point-edges of trigger fingers.
The femme fatales, gangsters, crooked cops(But, if you looked at his clothes closely and knew what they cost, then you understood that he was only modestly corrupt), Nazis, and all the wannabe rich types(the only way I know to get money from rich people is to steal it), are vying for a pot-of-gold that's supposed to have been sent to Jimmy.
Jimmy has to unravel mysteries from the past, put them together fast, and do it in a way that not saves his skin, but those who matter most to him. A tall order for a little gangster just trying to maintain a balance, on his razor edge life-style. But, as Jimmy says/I've been lucky. At times when I've had the need for large amounts of cash(& he needs to find that pot-of-gold), I've always been able to steal it.
So reader, do what they did in 1932 Manhattan/Hell everybody goes to Jimmy's(a toast of remembrance to Casablanca's 1942 Rick's Cafe Americain).
Great story and great storyteller.!
It's an OK Book. It's too wordy in the area where the woman gets captured by the "crazy man".
This book is just a lot of fun to read. The plot has lots of unexpected twist and turns which keep you reading even when you should be doing other things. I have read the first two books and will definitely buy the third in the series.
